Missoni.

Missoni Fall 2009 embraced the heavy-knitted sweater. Although heavily styled the pieces have great potential as separates. As always with Missoni there were lots of patterns and textures. A leap from the minimalistic approach we've seen so far. Missoni Fall 2009; Editorial Goodness, that's for sure.

Jil Sander Fall 2009.

And then there was Jil Sander. Emphasizing on shape, form & silhouette. Again another understated collection but with an attention to detail, and cuts. Very classic Jil Sander with a new element of modernism. Focusing on the waistline and the effects of contrasting proportions. Jil Sander Fall 2009 looks very geometric, art-inspired. I love the balloon sleeved jumpers which are visually alluring. And what the incorporation of earthy tones into the monochromatic palette through way of a pattern.Images; Coutorture

Burberry Fall 2009.

Perhaps the impounding recession has something to do with the minimalistic look of the Fall 2009. To some this collection might have been of a surprise, perhaps we were expecting something less understated. Although recently the minimalistic aesthetic has become trademark of the fall season, a reoccurring trend throughout the seasons. The fall is the return to routine and the restoration of order, after all. The man of these "hard times" prefers the clean and understated, classic but modern, Burberry Fall 2009.Simply Perfection.Images; Coutorture

Video; Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009.

The Fall 2009 season at Dolce & Gabbana is all about texture and pattern. Again with the image of a very sophisticated man, proven by all the velvet on the runway, the silk, all very Dolce. Domenico & Stefano decided to play around with the jackets adding checkerboard patterns and stripes. Interesting suggestions, there were many. Trousers were not left out of the experiment( quilted trousers, anyone?).The equestrian feel of some of the jackets caught my attention, the gold buttons, very interesting indeed. I was reminded of Balenciaga Fall 2007. Interesting I find myself mentioning the term equestrian twice on the same day to describe two separate collections. The collection still carried the similar feel of Spring 2009, a clash between all things formal & casual. I believe this has become the trademark of Domenico & Stefano. Fall 2009 was a return to the roots of Dolce & Gabbana, the primitive days. Images; Coutorture

Gaetano Navarra Fall 2009.

Gaetano Navarra brings us the first look at Milan Fashion Week Fall 2009. I must say I'm quite impressed by the versatility Navarra was able to create through such collection. Perhaps having to do with how it was styled, or maybe it's that Navarra is a genius at such, catering to not just one but various aesthetics. Navarra knows exactly what the modern man wants.
Modern but classic, equestrian, dandy and even somewhat avant-garde/grungy; as proven by the all beige number. An oversized heavy knit layered on top of another heavy knit sweater, rolled up sleeves, heavy knit scarf, and leggings!-Bravo!Images; Coutorture

Thing is...

I happened to be wondering as I stumbled over the Dior Homme Spring 2008 campaign; What ever happened to that elegant gentleman Van Assche made of the Dior Man? It was as if Van Assche knew exactly what he was doing, where he was taking the brand, until that is Spring 2009 came along, which was if anything a look to Hedi's Dior Homme. No longer did we see this elegant man, of class and poise, it was back to the rock star, androgynous, and young. Which only meant one thing, Assche must've realized his idea of Dior Homme wasn't going to benefit the brand. Not that I miss this gentleman, it was certainly nice to meet him, I just wonder if he is ever coming back..
